Social Entreprenuers

Up until fairly recently, I had almost given up hope on the present generation making much of an impact on the world around us. The rampant consumerism, a hyper focus on self and the sheer dysfunction left to them by the previous generation led me to believe it was time to start talking to preschoolers in hopes that they may have a clue.

Life After YWAM

Last week I was asked to do some debriefing for 28 people who have just finished their time with YWAM and are now heading back to the real world. We talked about how to understand what happened and Plant it in the sjort term via the next place they were going. The second area was Growing through developing your identity over the medium term. Finally, we discussed how to Bear fruit that will remain into the next generation.

I recorded the sessions and afterwards one of the staff members mentioned to me that it was the best debriefing session he had ever been in. Taking the encouragement, I thought I would make it available to a larger audience and have created a page called Life After YWAM.

Please share this with people you know who have been through YWAM and may need a little encouragement in this difficult transition.

What if you got to be you?

What if you got to do whatever you wanted to. What would that be? For instance, if you had the money and time and people to do whatever you wanted to, what would you start doing tomorrow and what would you stop doing tomorrow?

Vocatio - Welcome to DTS 3.0

Vocatio is the latin word for calling. It’s the root of our modern term vocation, but it has a sacred aspect to it, namely, that God has given us callings that will work out into our sacred expression in the world. This lines up with our missional sense of reconciling all things back to God in every area of life.

The main objectives of Vocatio are:

But What If I Fail

In the Matrix, Neo comes to a this juncture when he sees his potential but then compares this to his self image and the two don’t line up. I think this is a pandemic issue among the present generation leading to what I can only describe as identity cripples.

The Myth of Fatherhood

I said, “I’d like to see you if you don’t mind.”
He said, “I’d love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job’s a hassle, and the kid’s got the flu,
But it’s sure nice talking to you, dad.
It’s been sure nice talking to you.”
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He’d grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

Living Inside Out

Some of the external factors that influence our choices are things like:
• Is this God’s will?
• How much money?
• Suitable location?
• Suitable person?
• Right job description?
We look to these and other external factors to help us make the choice. The problem is, these factors are too narrow to define our real possibilities and we have the influence direction all wrong.

Passion

The Psalms says “delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”. I really believe that as a Father, God looks forward to a maturing heart that he can empower (II Thes. 1:11). If this is true, then we can give a lot more credence to the redeemed desires of our hearts, our dreams and yes, our passions.

Heaven

I’m wondering, if you create a thing of true beauty and value through a film or a song or a well landscaped garden, can’t that be something you do in eternity? If we are learning to walk in the kingdom of God through our lives and jobs etc., don’t the excellent things we create have a place in eternity? Isn’t that why they are worth doing?
